Implementation of an RFID-Based Online Attendance System Integrated with Google Spreadsheet Using NodeMCU ESP8266
Abstract
The development of Internet of Things (IoT) technology encourages the digitalization of student attendance systems to become more effective and real-time. This study implements an RFID-based online attendance system integrated with Google Spreadsheet using the NodeMCU ESP8266. The problem addressed is the continued use of manual attendance methods, which are inefficient, prone to manipulation, and require conventional data recapitulation. The research method includes hardware design consisting of NodeMCU ESP8266, RFID RC522, 16x2 LCD, and buzzer, software development using Arduino IDE, and integration of Google Apps Script as an HTTPS-based web service. The system reads student RFID card data and automatically sends attendance information along with timestamp data to Google Spreadsheet through an internet connection. Testing results show that the system records attendance in real-time with an average response time of 2.3 seconds under stable WiFi conditions. The implementation improves efficiency, accuracy, and transparency in managing student attendance data while providing a low-cost and easily deployable IoT-based solution for academic environments.
