Pengaturan daya reaktif dapat dilakukan dengan memasang thyristor dan kapasitor untuk mengatur daya reaktif yang ada pada sistem kelistrikan. Kegunaan dari daya reaktif untuk membangkitkan fluks magnet yang diperlukan untuk motor, trafo dan generator. Selain itu, untuk mengurangi adanya rugi-rugi yang akan terjadi pada sistem kelistrikan sehingga dapat menurunkan efisiensi dari sistem kelistrikan. Pada kondisi itu, pemakaian thyristor beralih jadi kapasitor (thyristor switched capacitor) merupakan salah satu cara untuk mengatur adanya daya reaktif yang muncul pada sistem kelistrikan.
